Making charades work with little kids

  • For non-readers, a grown-up reads the word into the child’s ear. Easy-level words are short on purpose.
  • Allow animal sounds for the youngest players — it keeps everyone laughing instead of stuck.
  • Let every child act, even if their team guessed nothing. Counting points matters less than taking turns.
  • Mix ages in each team so an older kid can help a younger one guess.

In a classroom

Charades is a quick vocabulary game: add the week’s words under Add your own words, project the phone or tablet screen, and split the class into 3–4 teams. The Action deck works well for verbs and the Emotion deck for feelings.

Kids charades questions

What age is this deck for?
Roughly 5 to 10. Easy words work from age 4 with a grown-up reading; Hard words like “a squirrel hiding nuts” suit 8–10 year olds.
Are all the words safe for kids?
Yes. There are no brands, no scary scenes and nothing a parent would need to explain. If you spot a word that does not fit, tell us on the contact page.
Can kids draw instead of acting?
Yes — choose Draw or Mix. Easy kids words like sun, fish and house are simple to draw.
